Gloria de Melo O País do Emigrante ou O País que será

O PAIS DO EMIGRANTE OU
O PAÍS DO QUE SERÁ

A dúvida que nos aperta
O coração, hora a hora
Tem hora marcada, certa
Na hora d'irmos embora.

Sou emigrante, e assim
Não sou de cá nem de lá
Existe dentro de mim ' /
O país-donde será?

Será que parto daqui?
Será que volto a Parada?
Ou seú em Miami
A minha última morada?

Vou partir ou vou ficar?
Faço bem ou faço mal?
Tenho saudades do mar
Saudades de Portugal

Mas minha filha não quer
Sair destoutro país
$qui se tornou mulher
E aqui que é feliz.

O drama de quem emigra
Por esta ou aquela razão
E.esta constante briga
Cá dentro do coração.

O drama do emigrante
Não é sair do país
É este esforço'incessante
Pra não quebrar aruz.

Mas a partir deste dia
Já toda a gente voltou
Com a estátua do Emigrante
Que hoje aqui se inaugurou
.
A dúvida que nos aperta
O coração hora a hora
Tem horamarcad4 certa
Na hora de irmos embora.

THE COUNTRY OF
THE COUNTRY
AN EMIGRANT OR
THAT-MAY.BE
The doubt that oppresses
Our heart each and every hour,
Beforehand did set the hour,
The hour of our return.

I am an emigrant, so
I belong not here or there.
Inside of me is now imPlanted
The country that-maY-be.

V/ilII leave this place?
V/ilII return to Parada?
Or will Miami be
V/ilII return, or will I stay?

My last and final address?
Am I right or am I wrong?
I long and yearn for mY blue sea,
I long and yearn for Portugal!

My daughter does not want to leave
This the other countrY
Here she became a woman
Here she found happiness.

The drama of those who emigrate
For one or another reason
Is the constant struggle
Deep within their hearts.

The drama of an emlgpnt
Is not leaviíg his cõuntry
It is the eternal struggle
Of clinging to his roots.

That beloved ship "Carái.vela"
sailing with the north wind!
He stayed in Tondela,
She went to New York.

From this day on
We have all returned
For the "Emmigrant' Christmas Feast"
We are celebrating here!

The doubt that oppresses
Our heart, each and every hour,
Beforehand did set the hour,
The hour of our return!
