Your Elizabeth Board of Education is honored to be the host location for a major Portuguese Youth Conference sponsored by the Mulher Migrante Association based in Lisbon, Portugal.

Present at this event will be Maria João Avila, of Elizabeth, NJ.  Representative Avila is an elected assembly woman to the Portuguese Parliament. Other experts in the field of business, government and education will also be present and participating.

Board Commissioners Tony Monteiro and Paul Perreira will welcome attendees to the conference which is being held at Dwyer Academy Auditorium on Wednesday, October 15th, 2014 from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

This conference will offer those that are present an opportunity  to discuss the successful strategies our students can use in leveraging their Portuguese language skills.

The growing Portuguese language program is offered at a number of schools throughout the district. Board Commissioner Paul Perreira, who is of Portuguese descent himself - has stated that he will be joining Board President Tony Monteiro in sponsoring a resolution at the next board meeting to further expand the program for all high students.

Although the conference is designed primarily for students in high school as well as college, adults from the learning community are also invited to attend this bilingual conference.
